Maddie the Scribe

Even though we are out in the "mission field" I am so grateful that we get conference through our local cable station (we don't have BYU TV). I couldn't imagine dragging the kids to the church to sit through 4 hours of listening to speakers. We do make them come in and listen when the prophet speaks and I decided I wanted them there to sustain the officers of the church. They were pretty excited when I told them about the Solemn Assembly and that we got to sustain a new prophet and to hear a new apostle announced. They all kept asking "when do we get to stand!" After they read the names I told them they were free to go and play. They all took off, but I wasn't too surprised when my little Madeline pulled out her notebook and began to take notes. I was impressed however, that she watched all 4 hours today and took notes on every speaker.
While she was taking her notes I was taken back to the past because I loved taking notes at Conference. My siblings and I would bring out our blankets (I also recall some mattresses being dragged into the living room too) and claim our spot to watch the sessions. I would take out my notebook and meticulously write things down. I just thoroughly enjoyed the experience of writing things in my notebook.
Madeline did a fabulous job and was very organized and neat in how she wrote everything down.
I told Maddie that I loved taking notes at Conference too, but the next day I would think that my notes were written sloppy and so I would recopy them in better handwriting (I don't know why; apparently I had some issues).
So in response she told me:
"I don't have to recopy. At school on Friday, Mrs. Ramirez told the class that she wished everyone had Madeline's handwriting!"
I don't think we have to worry about her confidence being low.

By the way, we are all missing Jared who is in Utah.
Can't wait to pick you up tomorrow. Love, love, love you!!!

Yeah those 4 hours can be a little long to try and keep kids attention. Way to go Maddie!

Do you remember being in that horrible Children's Lit class? You were dating Jared, and you would write Lani Dawn Norris over and over in your best handwriting! Those days were the best and don't you forget it! your Maddie is darling!

Maddie is such a doll. Typical first daughter, Nattie took notes both Saturday and Sunday. Gracie did some church cross words and a few things in a Conference packet I gave her and then she gave up! Give everyone big hugs from the Shane Sullivan clan!

That is impressive that she sat through conference and took notes the whole time. What a good girl!

oh, don't you just love those sweet little girls that are so obedient! Was Jared looking for job? Apt? Just curious, it stinks not seeing you at church.

That's so great that Maddie listened and took notes. My kids were "forced" to listen to the Sunday morning session while playing "Conference bingo". Taylor and Maggie both have aweful handwriting and I have gotten comments from teachers about how bad it is.

I loved conference because I got to take notes and remember what every speaker said. This is from Madeline.
